Snow Impacts Park County

Written by on February 26, 2019

We are finally feeling the effects of winter weather here in the Big Horn Basin.

After watching storms hit the regions around us for the last few weeks, Park County is expected to receive snow every day until the weekend – and that’s on top of the snowfall we’ve already seen in the last few days.

The National Weather Service reports that Beartooth Lake received 15 inches over the weekend; Kirwin received 11 inches; and 10 inches of new snow fell at Pahaska. The East Entrance saw 7 inches.

Due to recent snow accumulation and drifting, the road from Mammoth Hot Springs to Tower Junction will be closed today from 6 a.m. to noon, and the Bridger Teton Avalanche Center in Jackson has issued a backcountry avalanche warning for Yellowstone National Park, as well as the Teton and Gros Ventre ranges. Teton Pass was closed for avalanche control work Monday.

Classes were cancelled at some schools in Billings today due to the winter weather.
