Social Security Scam Circulating in Big Horn County

A phone scam is circulating in Big Horn County by individuals impersonating the Social Security office.

A post on the Bighorn County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page reports that residents in Big Horn County have been contacted by phone by individuals stating that their social security number has or will be suspended and asking them to call a specific number.

However, the Sheriff’s Office points out that Social Security does NOT suspend social security numbers, nor will representatives from the agency ever call you and ask for personal information over the phone. This is an attempt to steal personal information and identity.

Authorities warn residents to never give your personal information to callers stating they are with the Social Security Administration or the IRS – just hang up.

Residents are asked share this information with anyone you know, such as a senior citizen or disabled person who may fall victim to this scam.
