“During her show in Atlanta on Monday, Stevie Nicks expressed her gratitude towards Taylor Swift for the track ‘You’re On Your Own, Kid’ off of the ‘Midnights’ album. Nicks shared with the audience that this song has been instrumental in her grieving process following the loss of her dear friend and Fleetwood Mac bandmate, Christine McVie, over the past few months.
Nicks and McVie had a very close and strong bond ever since Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974. While mourning the loss of McVie, who passed away in November due to a stroke and metastasized cancer, Nicks has continued to celebrate their enduring friendship and sisterhood. Throughout her recent series of live performances this year, Nicks has been paying homage to her late friend, and during one of these shows, she took a moment to publicly acknowledge Taylor Swift’s unknowing support during this difficult time.
“Thank you to Taylor Swift for doing this thing for me, and that is writing a song called ‘You’re on Your Own, Kid,’” Nicks said. “That is the sadness of how I feel. As long as Chris was, even on the other side of the world, we didn’t have to talk on the phone. We really weren’t phone buddies. Then we would go back to Fleetwood Mac, and we would walk in, and it would be like ‘Little sister, how are you?’ It was like never a minute had passed, never an argument in our entire 47 years.”
