SYP: Vernon Orndorff, Superintendent of Public Instruction for Park County No. 6

Vernon Orndorff, Park County No. 6 Superintendent of Public Instruction, spoke about what happened last week with Cody schools. There was a “swatting” incident as well as a lockdown incident.  Both were quickly determined to be not credible threats.  The Superintendent spoke about what it’s like to be an educator in charge of the security of thousands of Park County children, how supportive parents and teachers have been as well as improvements that can be made in the system to respond to threats of violence at our schools. Because the Superintendent could only stay a half hour, we also heard from Dan Frederick who started Sleep In Heavenly Peace, an organization that makes beds for children here in the Big Horn Basin.
