Terek Fire 85 Percent Contained

Written by on July 12, 2018

The Terek fire is about 85 percent contained as of yesterday evening, after consuming around 60 square miles.
The blaze, which was started by lightning on Sunday night, closed Highway 31 between Manderson and Hyattville for a day, but the road has since reopened. And fire managers say that no structures have been lost.
Operations have continued to focus on any hot spots along the fire perimeter. Cooler temperatures are expected today with light wind and partly cloudy conditions occurring later in the day over the fire area, which should help decrease fire activity. Fire crews will continue to secure the perimeter and increase containment as well as begin mop up operations.
However, fire managers say there is still a No Fly Zone in place, as aerial operations are ongoing. So drones and other similar objects are prohibited from operating in the area.
