Trails Closed After Wind Event

A wind event in the Paint Rock Lakes area above Hyattville has impacted trails in that area.
Forest Service officials say that on Friday, June 29th, a high wind event moved across an area near Paintrock Guard Station. The wind knocked over hundreds of trees blocking Road 344 between Paint Rock Lakes and Cold Springs, as well as Trail 116, which both access the Cloud Peak Wilderness and areas adjacent to it from the Paint Rock Lakes area. Trees were also knocked down between Geneva Pass and Crystal Lake.
The Forest Service says crews are currently working on re-opening them, but it could take several weeks, particularly for the trails, which may require longer. Other areas may be affected but have not been reported as yet.
Visitors are warned to take care when planning your outdoor activity, as navigating around these areas can be very difficult.
