An intoxicated woman drove a pickup truck through the restaurant’s wall at the intersection of Big Horn Avenue and Blackburn Street, trapping and injuring a man underneath.
At approximately 8:18 p.m. Sunday night, a white pickup truck crashed into the El Vaquero Restaurant at 2425 Big Horn Avenue in Cody.
The vehicle crashed through the south end of the building into a private room separate from the restaurant’s dining area. An adult male was inside the room playing video games at the time and became trapped underneath the truck.
Cody Volunteer Firefighters arrived on the scene and lifted the vehicle enough to extract the victim from underneath the truck. Thankfully, the restaurant was closed, and no customers were inside at the time.
The victim was transported to the Cody Regional Health Emergency Room and later released. His condition is currently unknown.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol responded to the scene to investigate the crash.
The driver of the pickup truck – 58-year-old Heather Lee Johnson – was arrested by the Cody Police Department on suspicion of driving under the Influence. After being evaluated and released from Cody Regional Health, she was taken to the Park County Detention Center, where she remains incarcerated.
Johnson is charged with two crimes – one felony charge of DUI with serious bodily injury and a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.
This case is still under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
