Two Fires Cause Dramatic Scenes in Cody

Written by on July 13, 2020

It was a fiery weekend in Cody.

On Friday morning of last week, the Wild Horse Café unexpectedly caught fire. The source of the fire is currently attributed to an indoor electrical malfunction. The Cody Fire Department quickly responded to the scene, but not before the entire establishment was caught in the blaze. There’s no word on the future of the eatery, owned by Herb and Barbara Hoy. A $200 thousand-dollar GoFundMe page has been established for the internationally-known restaurant, to help repair the fire damage and reopen the loca; spot.

On Saturday, a second fire ignited on the top of Southfork Hill. A truck was engulfed in powerful flames and thick, acrid smoke. In this case, it’s been reported that rags from paint combusted and started the inferno. Apparently, the fire spread into the nearby barrow ditch and field.  Again, Cody’s firefighters responded promptly and managed to contain and extinguish the flames in a surprisingly short amount of time.

There appears to be no injuries directly related to either of these fires, although lots of property has apparently gone up in smoke. You can contribute to the Wild Horse Cafe GoFundMe account here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/22h3kfev2o
