Shoshone National Forest is looking to recruit Bighorn Basin veterans for a walk in the woods – and a few other things.

The Clarks Fork, Greybull, and Wapiti Ranger Districts of the Shoshone National Forest are looking to fill several temporary recreation-related positions out of Cody for the summer 2021 field season. Some of those positions to be filled include Off-Highway Vehicle Ranger, Wilderness and Trails, Collections Officer, and Developed/ Dispersed Recreation.

Forest officials are specifically looking for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, as they know veterans already have the attributes they need in the positions they’re hoping to fill. Ideal candidates possess strong communication skills, are comfortable communicating with a diverse public, are self-motivated, and know how to work as part of an effective team.

Positions are temporary but still significant. The average term of employment is from mid-May to the end of October.

If hired, veterans will work as part of the larger Shoshone National Forest team to accomplish recreation management tasks throughout the Forest’s Ranger Districts: visitor contacts, motorized patrol, backcountry patrol, regulatory compliance, trail maintenance, counting and organizing campground monies, and site maintenance.

Government housing will be available to those veterans hired.

Interested candidates should send a resume, references, and copy of their DD-214 to ashley.duke@usda.gov no later than April 10, 2021. For additional information please contact Ashley Duke at (307) 578-5225.
