Walk Across Wyoming Kicks Off Friday

A local psychologist is walking from Cody to Cheyenne to raise awareness for suicide prevention.
Dr. Terresa Humphries-Wadsworth leaves Friday, September 1st on her 15 day journey. She says as a clinical psychologist, she realized the importance of raising awareness for suicide prevention. She came up with the idea of a Walk Across Wyoming, but soon realized that if it was going to happen, she herself was going to have to be the one to spearhead the effort.
Until June of this year, Wadsworth worked as Director of Statewide Suicide Prevention for Prevention Management Organization of Wyoming, until the budget was cut for this program. In a press release, Wadsworth said her journey is, quote, “about bringing a voice to the silent and connection to the lost,” endquote.
Wadsworth says she does not consider herself an athlete, but has been training for a little over a year now, and feels prepared for the journey. But she will not be traveling alone – Powell Police Chief Roy Eckerdt and his wife Kelly will be assisting Wadsworth on her journey.
The first steps on the Walk Across Wyoming will be taken from Veteran’s Memorial Park in Cody on Friday, and the journey will end at the Cheyenne VA hospital on September 15th, although there will be events along the way in communities that she will pass through. Wadsworth and Eckerdt will be documenting the journey on their Facebook page, Walk Across WY.
