Walk Across Wyoming Steps Out Today

Written by on September 1, 2017

A 400 mile walk begins with a single step – and balloons.
Dr. Terresa Humphries-Wadsworth took her first steps on a journey that will take her from Cody to Cheyenne this morning – a 15 day Walk Across Wyoming, with the purpose of bringing awareness to suicide prevention efforts.
For Wadsworth, this is a personal journey. Her life has been touched by suicide, and she said in her sendoff speech this morning that she is walking for those who fight the battle.

Joining her on the first leg of the trip were Allison and Dustin Burns and their two year old child, who chose to walk with Wadsworth from Cody to Meeteetse. Dustin said that their lives were changed with the suicide death of his father two years ago.

Today’s sendoff was marked with speeches from members of the VFW Auxiliary and attended by legislators, business owners and others who are supporting Wadsworth’s cause. As she took her first step of many thousands to come in the next two weeks, those gathered let balloons fly and cheered her on.
