Warrior Soccer Remain Unbeaten
Written by Chance Bond on March 26, 2023
It was a match that wasn’t on the schedule and not thought to happen.
Weather and the cancelation of the Pinnacle Cup in Pinedale, then later in what was trying to be a replacement tournament here in Worland.
A third option was for the Warriors Boys Soccer team to travel to Powell and play against the former West Conference rival.
In a match that would be the number 1 Wyoming 3A team vs the Wyoming 3A number 2 ranked team.
Week 1 of the season had the Panthers ranked number 1 and the Warriors ranked number 2.
After the first week, Worland would get a win vs Campbell County and tie Natrona County, Powell was idle in week 1.
The week 2 rankings had Powell and Worland flip-flop putting the Warriors number 1 and the Panthers number 2.
The stage was set for number 1 Worland vs number 2 Powell in Powell, a non-conference match.
Powell would get the first score of the game from Chance Franks at 28:38 with a Direct Kick goal after a penalty from just inside the 20 at Worland’s end.
The first half would end with a Panther lead over the Warriors 1-0.
The Warriors had 6 shots on goal with 6 saves from Powell Keeper Holden Cooper.
In the second half, the Warriors moved quicker with more aggression towards the goal.
Worland also had over a dozen corner kicks.
In the second half the corner kicks would produce the Warrior’s first goal at 34:43 off the foot of Court Gonsalez in the corner to the headshot goal from Middle Backer Trae Bennett.
The Warriors tied the match 1-1.
With a back-and-forth match that was mostly controlled by the Warrior offense, Worland would get the go-ahead goal off a spinning Drew Schneider to the foot of Court Gonsalez to secure the win.
Worland would beat the number 2 ranked Powell Panthers 2-1 in Powell.
The Warriors would get to 2-0-1 for the season with conference play beginning this week against Buffalo Friday.
