Warriors Are West Regional Champions, Headed to State

The Worland Warriors finished the 2020-21 regular season with a record of  14-3 overall and 5-1 in the Northwest Quad. The losses to Rawlins, Buffalo, and Powell all came in a stretch of five games from February 5th to February 13th. The Warriors haven’t lost since.

Wyoming’s 3A number one ranked team went into the Northwest Quad tournament as the number one seed. In a Quad that had three of the top five ranked teams in the State.

Worland would first play 5-11 overall and 0-6 in conference Lovell Bulldogs for the 3rd time this season. The Warriors had beaten Lovell 73-43 on January 28th and 47-44 February 12th. Worland would get the first round win and elimination game 64-42 at Warrior Gymnasium.

Lander and Powell would also play in Worland an elimination game of two top five teams in Wyoming 3A basketball. The Tigers would beat the Panthers 61-49 and eliminate the State’s number 3 ranked team.

In another three time rematch game the Warriors would play Lander. Game one in Lander was won by the Warriors 79-63 in a game Mack Page scored 27. The second regular season game was also won by Worland at home 66-54 in a game Rudy Sanford had 27.

The third matchup would see Worland win 60-55 and take the Northwest Quad Championship at home.

In the Regional Championship the Warriors would face the Lyman Eagles for the second time this season. The first meeting saw the Warriors score the most points in Wyoming 3A this season with a 101-77 win.

The second meeting wouldn’t be as high scoring but would see Rudy Sanford hit seven 3 pointers in the game and end with 27. Mack Page with 18 and Court Gonzales with 11.

Warriors would win 66-56 and win the Wyoming 3A Western Regional Championship in Powell.

Worland will play the 8-10 overall, 3-3 in conference Eastern Conference 4th seed Wheatland Bulldogs. The game will be Wednesday at 1:30pm in the Ford Wyoming Center.
