Water Supply Meetings This Week

Written by on April 16, 2018

The Bureau of Reclamation has scheduled two meetings in the upcoming weeks to discuss water supply conditions in the Big Horn Basin.
This Thursday, a meeting is scheduled in Powell to discuss the Buffalo Bill Reservoir; next Tuesday, a similar meeting in Billings will focus on the Bureau’s proposed spring operating plan for Yellowtail Dam and Bighorn Lake.
The meeting Thursday will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge in Powell. Mahonri Williams with the Bureau of Reclamation says topics of discussion will be current water supply conditions, the 2018 snowmelt runoff forecast, and 2018 projected reservoir operations.
Next Tuesday, the meeting at Bighorn Resort in Billings will also include an open house to provide participants an opportunity to engage in more focused discussions and pick up informational materials.
According to National Weather Service officials, Wyoming’s precipitation in March was at over 100 percent of average, and mountain snowpack across the state is at about 110 percent of the median levels. As of the beginning of this month, reservoir levels are well over average, and thanks to the precipitation that’s been falling the last couple of weeks, those levels could rise significantly.
