West Yellowstone Guide Cited

Written by on January 26, 2018

A West Yellowstone snowmobile guide has been cited after one of his riders was seen on the Old Faithful webcam riding on a boardwalk next to the geyser Saturday.
According to an article in the Helena Independent Record, Park officials would not identify the guide, who was also cited for not having a valid driver’s license, and not possessing proper credentials for guiding in Yellowstone. Yellowstone spokeswoman Vicki Regula says only the guide was cited and there was no damage to the boardwalk.
The rangers were notified by a park dispatcher, who saw the offense happen on a webcam. A couple of park rangers were apparently on duty as they cited the guide, whose court hearing has not been scheduled.
The incident occurred during the partial government shutdown last weekend. Although Yellowstone and several other national parks were allowed to stay open, there were strict regulations in place that required snowmobilers to be accompanied by commercial guides.
The rangers also turned back snowmobilers at the East Entrance near Cody, who did not have a guide, and issued a citation to another at Old Faithful for entering without a guide.
