Wet Conditions Hurt Forest Roads

Written by on May 23, 2018

The wet spring has caused problems for several roads on the Shoshone National Forest.
The agency has closed Forest Service Road 165 located in the Crandall area of the Clarks Fork District, due to resource damage. The road, which is across Wyoming Highway 296 from the North Crandall Trailhead, was severely damaged when multiple vehicles attempted to access it during recent wet conditions.
According to District Ranger Sue Stresser, once conditions improve, they will be able to open the road. But until that time, the agency is asking that all members of the public respect the closure. The gate for the road has been closed and locked to allow the road to dry out before further use occurs.
In other parts of the forest, rangers report that the Sheridan Loop Road on the Wind River District is closed due to an active slump in the road, and in the Washakie District, the Loop Road will only partially open this Friday.
