Worland Lady Warrior Wrestlers Head To State For The Inaugural Girls Championship

The Worland Lady Warrior Wrestling Team headed (early to get ahead of the weather and a possible road closure) to Casper to compete in the 1st ever-Wyoming High School Girl’s State Wrestling Championship.

Worland will send 4 wrestlers to the Championship Tournament that will begin on Thursday at the Ford Wyoming Center.

At the 125 lb weight class Junior Rylee Anderson, the 130 lb weight class Junior Rivers Carrell, the 135 lb weight class Senior Katie Emmett, and at the 140 lb weight class Senior Lecsi Ramirez.

The 125 lb weight class is topped by Kemmerer’s Sophomore Laynee Walker (33-7), followed by WAWA team member and Copper All-American from Natrona County Senior Andraya Canchola (21-3), Powell’s Senior Yessenia Teague, Freshman Brueklyn Truempler of Shoshoni, Cheyenne South’s Senior Hannah Soden, Sophomore Lilly Harris from Green River and Worland’s Junior Rylee Anderson.

Rylee (13-7) will face Sophomore Samantha Brannen (5-15) of  Pinedale in the opening round.

The topped-ranked wrestler in the 130 lb weight class is Buffalo’s, Telia Peters.

Peters (29-1) is a member of the Wyoming Amature Wrestling Association Girls Team and is a Gold All-American and National Champion.

Rivers is the number 2 ranked wrestler in the 130 lb weight class followed by Evanston Junior Johana Saavedra, Kylee Batista a Sophomore from Kemmerer, Mya Swain is the 6th ranked wrestler in the 130 lb weight class a Sophomore from Pinedale, Kloey Walker a Freshman from Rawlins and Remington Aullman a Freshman from Star Valley.

Rivers (27-3) will face Junior Mikayla Green (2-9) from Green River in the first round.

In the 135 lb weight class Sophomore Viel Foreman (34-0) of Star Valley is a member of the WAWA team and a Gold All-American with a National Championship from the Iowa Twin Rivers Wrestling Duals and is ranked number 1.

Behind Foreman in the 135 lb class is Senior from Kelly Walsh Alyse Richardson, Junior from Sheridan Paityn Covolo, Junior from Thunder Basin High School in Gillette Autumn Clark, Worland’s Katie Emmett is ranked 5th, Campbell County’s Sophomore LouAnn Bryant and Cheyenne East’s Katie Lyon finish out the top 7.

Emmett has a bye in the first round and will face the winner between number 3-ranked Covolo, and number 6-ranked Bryant.

The number 1 ranked wrestler in the 140 lb weight class is a WAWA team member, Gold All-American, and National Champion from Rawlins Senior Brinley Green (20-5).

The rest of the top-ranked wrestlers in the 140 lb weight class: Junior Abbagail Dickerson from Kelly Walsh, Freshman Rakyah Hudson from Buffalo, Junior from Star Valley Samantha Walker, Sophomore Danika Crumrine from Lovell, the number 6th ranked wrestler from Shoshoni Junior Lacoda Kiser and Natrona County Senior Jazmin Ladwig.

Lecsi Ramirez goes into the State Championship unranked with a (14-5) record and will face Junior Morgan Murray (7-16) from Cheyenne Central.
