Wy Thai Restaurant Moving To New Location

WY Thai restaurant, started in 2018 by Dar Emmert with her mother, Simone Marshall, is moving to a more permanent location.
Moving isn’t a new thing to the Thai-cooking duo.
Started in Ralston, WY Thai currently occupies a small piece of real estate off of Big Horn Avenue, that is basically a food truck with outdoor seating and if you blink, you’ll miss the one-way turnoff into the dirt parking lot. That location will be closed on April 28th.
Asked why they are moving, Dar explains that the owner of the lot didn’t want to sign a long-term lease so that motivated her and mom to find a new space. Plus, because they weren’t in a permanent structure, WY Thai would close when Wyoming temperatures plummeted below freezing. “We can’t keep it open because it gets so cold,” Dar says.
Once they found out that their lease wouldn’t be renewed, Dar and her mother were faced with a daunting decision: Find a space that could work, or close permanently. Luckily, they found a new location just in time.
Their new restaurant will be located at 2619 E. Sheridan Avenue (the old Noon Break breakfast place). Once Dar checked it out, she took a leap of faith and signed a new lease.
The Real Estate market, especially commercial, in Cody can be crazy and with low-to-no inventory, looking for the right space was a daunting task. But through word-of-mouth from a customer, Dar said the timing was perfect when they found their new spot. “The customer said, ‘Are you still looking for a building? And I said, ‘Yeah!’ We were having a hard time finding a building [that would suit their needs] so it was [this place] or nothing at all,” she says with an easy laugh.
Dar says even though they have a closing date on Big Horn Avenue, they still don’t have an opening date on Sheridan Avenue yet because there is much to do in the new space. Will the new space look radically different when the renovation is complete? “No, it will look the same but [we] will add some things,” Dar says enthusiastically. She says the main focus is getting enough tables and chairs since this is the first time WY Thai will offer indoor seating. Despite not having an opening date, Dar is optimistic saying, “I’m thinking [we could re-open the restaurant] sometime at the end of May, beginning of June.” Just in time for locals and tourists to get authentic, local Thai food and Boba teas right here in Cody.
