Written by Cole Havens on June 30, 2023
The Cody Cubs returned to action Thursday nigh as they played host to the Billings Upper Deck Expos.
Let’s pick things up in game 2, where the Cubs would win it in walk-off fashion. And ICYMI, here’s the game winning video.
Following the contest I caught up with Carlson who talks about what was going through his head prior to stepping up to the plate and more.
Trey Schroeder would get the start in game 2 and threw a great game, going 5.2 innings, gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and struck out 7.
Dominic Phillips would pick up his 1st win of the season tossing 1 inning.
The Cubs would get on the board first, scoring 2-runs in the 4th and plated 1 in the 5th. Billings would answer int the 6th win a 3-run inning to tie it all up, heading into the 7th.
In the top half, Trey Thomasson would make an early rendition for play of the game with one of the most beautiful outfield assists, gunning out the wannabe go ahead run at the plate to preserve the 3-3 tie.
Thomasson then took to the plate in the bottom of the 7th and connected on a lead-off triple before Wyatt Carlson had the game winning hit.
I also caught up with Thomasson to talk about that momentum swinging 7th inning plus more.
And head coach Beau White couldn’t be happier for the guys following this outcome.
In game No. 1, Thomasson would get the start and tossed one of the best outings of his season. He picked up his 4th win of the season, tossing a complete game. He gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits and struck out 9. Cubs took game 1 by a final of 10-4.
The Cubs got on the board early in game 1, thanks in large part to a 4-run 3rd. Cody held on to a 5-2 lead after 3 and added 5 more across innings 5 and 6.
The Cubs would take advantage of several miscues in game 1 as Billings committee 5 errors in the contest.
Following all the action the Cubs are now 24-16-1 as they head into the 4th of July weekend.
Up Next: The Cubs begin the stretch run as they return to action, Wednesday, for a conference double header at Lovell. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
