Wyoming is safer today, as it joins the rest of the nation in seeing a drop in violent crime.
Between 2016 and 2018, violent crime dropped 17% in Wyoming. This significant drop is credited to the collaborative efforts of Wyoming’s local, state, federal, and tribal late enforcement agencies. The national average is a 3.9% drop.
The Uniform Crime Report Index is a compilation of offenses, arrests and other crime statistics submitted to the FBI. Violent crimes include homicide, rape, aggravated assault, and robbery. Wyoming saw noticeable drops in these crimes across the board.
The Department of Justice revamped their Project Safe Neighborhoods 2 years ago. The program was designed to reduce violent crimes, and this national drop is seen as a vindication of their efforts.
