Youth Mental Health Trainings This Month
Written by Andrew-Rossi on October 9, 2018
Youth mental health is a growing concern for anyone who works with young people.
According to Wendy Morris, the Community Prevention Specialist who works with the Park County Health Coalition, we are more likely to encounter a friend, family member, student, neighbor, or member of the community in an emotional or mental crisis, than we are someone having a heart attack.
Because of this, the Health Coalition and Heritage Health Center will be hosting two free upcoming trainings this month, titled “Youth Mental Health First Aid.” The first will be this Thursday from 8-5 at Cody Regional Health, and the other will be later this month, on October 24th in Powell.
Morris says that, sadly, there are far too many instances in which this training will become useful for anyone who works with youth in any capacity.
Morris says the class teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to young people showing signs of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self-help care.
Lunch & materials will be provided. Space is limited, so an RSVP is requested by contacting Wendy Morris at (307) 578-2707.
