Zinke Makes Progress with Access to Public Lands

Written by on March 3, 2017

Former Montana congressman Ryan Zinke was sworn in as the new Department of the Interior secretary this week, and has already begun working to expand access to public lands.

Thursday, on his first day on duty, Zinke issued two secretarial orders which will increase hunting, fishing, and recreation opportunities nationwide. The action was praised by representatives from sportsmen, conservation, and recreation organizations.

Zinke pointed out that between hunting, fishing, motorized recreation, camping and more, the industry generates thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic activity.

A recently released report based on data collected in 2015 shows that hunting alone boosts Wyoming’s economy by nearly $303 million dollars per year.
