Make a COMMITMENT to Change!

Written by on May 3, 2019

It’s a rare person who can decide one day to change their lifestyle, and then just jump in and get started the next day – making lifelong changes takes time to prepare! I’m Wendy Corr, and in today’s wellness tip, we’re going to touch on the five steps you need to take to change your life for the better – for good!

Committing to a healthier lifestyle is just that — a commitment, and it’s not one that should be considered lightly. And many people try and fail every year – because they don’t have the proper foundation in place!

Here are five steps you should take to make LASTING changes in your diet, exercise and lifestyle.

First, you need to change your MIND. This one doesn’t take any effort physically, just mentally – but for many people, it’s the toughest. You need to grasp the fact that this isn’t a quick fix – you want to be healthy the rest of your LIFE, not just for a few months, right?

Second, set goals that you can realistically achieve. What is your vision of the ULTIMATE you? Write down how you want to look and feel. Break it down into smaller goals, then assign action steps to each goal. For example, you can master a new exercise move each week, or set up a weekly healthy meal plan.

Making healthier food choices is the third step. Restock your fridge and pantry, and dump all the junk foods in your cupboards right away. Make room for nutritious, energy-boosting fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy snacks.

Then start moving! Exercise is the BEST way to burn calories and fat, and increase your mood and energy along the way! If you’ve been sedentary, just take that first step. You may not be ready to run a half-marathon, but you can go for a walk or maybe even a short run.

And finally, but most importantly, set up your support system.  Share your goals and how you’re planning to accomplish them, and let your friends, family and co-workers in on the types of foods you’re eating — and no longer eating — and your new workout schedule. Let them know how important it is to you to have their support.

With the right mind-set, tools, and support system, you CAN do this. Believe in yourself and your ability to change and you will.
