Accident Closes Wind River Canyon

A semi-truck vs pickup truck accident Saturday afternoon caused the Wind River Canyon between Shoshoni and Thermopolis to close for several hours.
According to witnesses on the scene, there were only minor injuries in the accident. It appeared the semi-truck hit a patch of ice which caused the truck to skid, hitting the side of the pickup truck.
The wreckage of the accident wound up inside of one of the three tunnels on this stretch of highway. Both vehicles were damaged badly. Roads will continue to be impacted through Monday, motorists are encouraged to anticipate longer travel times across the state.
