Yellowtail Dam Presentation Thursday
Written by Andrew-Rossi on January 22, 2018
A multimedia presentation on the creation of the Yellowtail Dam will examine some of the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the Dam.
Park ranger Todd Johnson from the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area will be giving the presentation January 25th as part of the Powell Valley Community Education program.
Johnson says the construction was a significant event in the history of the area, impacting residents from the Crow Tribe to members of the communities along the river. He will be showing portions of “Build-Up On the Big Horn”, the film created by Morrison-Knudson, the contractor for the Yellowtail Dam project, as well as showing photos from the Bureau of Reclamation archive.
Also participating in the program will be Johnny Tim Yellowtail, the great grandson of Robert Yellowtail. He will discuss the Native American perspective on the building of the dam and how members of the Crow tribe feel about it today.
The event will start at 6PM at the Fagerberg Building, Room 65 at Northwest Community College.
