A Texas teenager died this weekend after a tragic ATV crash near Crandall.
According to the Park County Sheriff’s Office, the 911 dispatch center received a call on Saturday evening that a motor vehicle crash with injuries had occurred on Squaw Creek Road near Crandall. While on their way to the site, emergency responders were notified that the driver of the vehicle had died.
14-year-old Maximillian Finney from Texas was the victim of the crash, which Lance Mathess from the Sheriff’s Office says happened while the young man was traveling between two cabins on Road XUX.
Mathess said that this section of Squaw Creek Road is not the area that has been affected by the recent mudslide – rather, in this area, Squaw Creek road has a gravel surface. He says that evidence indicated that Finney was traveling too fast for conditions, and was not wearing a helmet. Park County Coroner Tim Power ruled the cause of death to be massive head trauma.
