Brindi Brittain’s 3 Punctuates Fillies Win, Broncs Show Heart, Grit in Defeat at Worland

Written by on January 5, 2022

The Cody Basketball teams were in Worland Tuesday night for a double header to open up the 2022 New Year.

The Fillies would pick up right where they left off, knocking off the Lady Warriors by a final score of 57-23 for their 5th win of the season.

The Fillies shot out of the gates in a blaze of glory scoring 23 first quarter points and 42 first half points en route to the win.

However, the Fillies saved the best for last. As the game was winding down, head coach Chris Wagner would clear the bench, playing as many girls as possible. Brindi Brittain would enter in the final minutes and on the Fillies final possession of the game delivered the biggest shot of the night.

It was a very balanced scoring attack from the Fillies with Ally Boysen leading the way with 13 points. Kennedi Niemann added nine while Molly Hays and Victory Buck each had seven. Izzy Radakovich, Jessa Lynn and Reece Niemann each had six for the Fillies who are 5-0 on the season.

In the second game of the twin bill, the Cody Broncs would go toe-to-toe with the reigning Class 3A State Champs.

It was a high octane, fast paced, entertaining game from start to finish. The Broncs showed heart, grit, determination but ran out of time in a 68-63 loss.

In what was a back-and-forth game from start to finish, Grady McCarten nailed a 3-pointer to beat the first quarter buzzer that pulled the Broncs to within three after one quarter.

The Broncs would find themselves in foul trouble early and trailed 29-24 at the half.

Cody would take the lead midway through the thrid quarter, 37-36 but from then on it was all Worland who closed out the 3rd on a 11-2 run.

The Broncs would fin themselves down by as many as 11 in the fourth but just ran out of time in the ened.

Robby Porter led the way foo Cody with a game high 27 points while Grady McCarten had 22 points, six made 3-pointers.
