The Cody Wrestling team was back in Montana over the weekend competing in the 63rd annual Cowboy Invitational in Miles City.
Cody would bring 18 grapplers to Miles City, 12 of them placed and eight would advance to the semi-finals.
The Broncs would finish second as a team, behind Huntley Project, with Freshamn Trey Smith leading the way. He was the champion at 113 pounds, the outstanding wrestler of the tournament and the wrestler with the most pins in the least amount of time.
According to Head Coach Trev Wood, Shayne Maxwell was a dark horse for the Broncs, defeating his first three opponents by fall and punched his ticket into the semi’s.

Coch Wood’s comments on the meet: “This is the second week in a row where the Cody Broncs performed well amongst the Montana schools. It was a fun team race as Cody and Huntley Project were flip-flopping first and second place all day Friday and Saturday. It was exciting to be in the team race, knowing that each match counted. Eventually, it was a string of seven losses in the placing rounds that cost Cody the all-around tournament title. However, the tournament was set up so that there was a 1st place trophy for the A and AA schools and a team trophy for the B/C schools. Cody was placed in the larger school’s division and brought home the 1st place trophy.”
Bronc Wrestling is back in action on Friday and Saturday as they travel down to Lander.
