Jackson Schroeder had 124 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns and the Cody Broncs ran past Buffalo Friday night to clinch a spot in the Class 3A State Championship game.
Cody has advanced to the title game for the 3rd year in a row and 5th time in the last 9 years.
The Broncs got the ball rolling in the semi-final contest with a 46 yard touchdown pass from Luke Talich to Remy Broussard and Cody led early 7-0.
Talich would leave the game early due to an undisclosed injury and never returned.
Enter Maddox Ball. Ball would be tasked with a tough assignment but rose to the occasion. After a couple of turnovers and some stingy defense Ball would put together a drive to end the 1st.
Cody led 7-0 after one quarter
Early in the 2nd that drive payed dividends as A.J. Baustert scored on a 6 yard touchdown run.
Cody’s 2nd quarter dominance, this season, continued as the Broncs scored 21 in the frame: Matt Nelson and Schroeder also scored in the quarter and the Broncs took a 28-0 lead into halftime.
Cody could taste the title appearance at that point.
Ball would open up the 3rd quarter with his first touchdown pass of the game, a 16 yard pass to his cousin Jacob and the route was on.
Schroeder scored once more to start the fourth and the Broncs secured the title appearance.
