Broncs Fall to Braves in State Title, Finish in 2nd
Written by Cole Havens on November 13, 2022
The Cody Broncs took to War Memorial Stadium in Laramie on Friday with title aspirations on the mind but it was not meant to be as Star Valley would get the better of Cody winning the contest 14-7.
The Broncs 7 points is their lowest offensive output in over 2 years.
It was a cold, fringed afternoon in Laramie as defenses reigned supreme.
Both teams would score in the first quarter, Star Valley through the air and Cody on the ground with a Jackson Schroeder rush TD.
The Broncs and Braves would go back-and-forth all afternoon exchanging blow-for-blow but in the end it was a 17 yard touchdown pass from Taft McClure to Derek Astle to give Star Valley the lead late.
The turnover battle was the difference in this one as Cody coughed up the football 3 times, all fumbles. Two of them on punt returns and another on a run up the middle. They also turned it over on downs multiple times. That was to much to overcome.
The Cody Broncs officially finish the season 10-1 and runner-ups at the 2022 State Championship.
This senior class will go down as one of the best to ever play for Cody.
They finish 2-time State Champions, in 2020 and 2021.
They held a 26-game win streak that began in 2020.
They went undefeated, a perfect 11-0 in 2021.
While it stings now, hold your heads high. What you’ve accomplished over the last few years is incredible. It’s been an amazing run. I cam in with this senior class and to see them grow over the last four years has been truly an honor and a blessing. I’m proud to be your broadcaster.
