Charlie Beaudrie Feature
Written by Cole Havens on February 20, 2020
TODAY I CONTINUE MY FEATURE OF CODY BRONC ATHLETES THAT WILL BE TAKING THEIR TALENTS TO THE NEXT LEVEL. MY WEEK THREE FEATURE… CODY BRONC SENIOR CHARLIE BEAUDRIE. CHARLIE HAS COMMITTED TO CONTINUING HIS ACADEMIC AND FOOTBALL CAREER AT CHADRON STATE UNIVERSITY. I WAS ABLE TO CATCH UP WITH BOTH CHARLIE AND HIS DAD, JOE, TO TALK ABOUT THE DECISION, WHAT IT WAS LIKE COMING OFF A INJURY FILLED SENIOR SEASON ON THE GRIDIRON AND WHAT THE NEXT STEPS ARE.
CHARLIE SAYS HE CHOSE CHADRON STATE FOR THE ATMOSPHERE THAT WAS PRESENTED FROM THE COACHES TO THE FACILITIES AND SAID THERE WAS A CAMARADERIE THAT WAS HARD TO BEAT. THIS YEAR WAS A FRUSTRATING SEASON ON THE GRIDIRON FOR CHARLIE. HE MISSED THE MAJORITY OF THE SEASON DUE TO INJURY AND TALKS ABOUT HOW THAT INFLUENCED THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS.
“I DON’T THINK THERE’S ANYTHING I WOULD CHANGE. I THINK THAT IT HAPPENED FOR A REASON, FOR ME TO GO HERE. ALTHOUGH TEARING EVERYTHING IN MY ANKLE WAS A TERRIBLE THING, I THINK THAT IT MIGHT’VE BEEN A PATH THAT WAS ALREADY PRE-DESTINED FOR ME AND GOING TO CHADRON WAS A PLACE TO BE.”
CHARLIE WILL BE HEADING TO CHADRON STATE TO PLAY DEFENSIVE BACK/BE A HYBRID PLAYER OF SORTS. BEAUDRIE ON HIS NEXT STEP AS A FOOTBALL PLAYER.
“LOOKING FORWARD I’M PLANNING ON TRYING TO START MY FRESHMAN YEAR. PLAY ALL FOUR YEARS. IF A TRANSFER IS A THING THAT HAPPENS, I GUESS IT HAPPENS BUT RIGHT NOW I’M AN EAGLE AND I’M PROUD TO BE ONE.”
CHARLIE GOES ON TO TALK ABOUT BEING A MULTI-SPORT ATHLETE, THE BENEFITS OF WRESTLING AND GOING OUT FOR TRACKS AND HOW THAT’S AN ADVANTAGE ON THE GRIDIRON.
“THE HARD WORK IN THE WRESTLING ROOM… NO OTHER SPORT COMPARES TO IT. I MEAN, IF YOU GO OUT THERE AND WRESTLE YOU CAN DO ANYTHING. SO, I MEAN, JUST WRESTLING, WRESTLING HELPS WITH EVERYTHING, OBVIOUSLY. TACKLING AND A DOUBLE LEG ARE KIND OF THE SAME THING. WITH TRACK JUST GETTING FASTER AND FASTER, THAT HELPS WITH FOOTBALL.”
CHARLIE TOOK A MOMENT TO REFLECT ON HIS TIME AS A BRONC FOOTBALL PLAYER AND SHARES WHAT HE WILL REMEMBER THE MOST FROM HIS TIME AT CODY THAT HE WILL TAKE WITH HIM THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE.
“JUST NEVER TAKE THINGS FOR GRANTED, REALLY. COACH ENGDAHL ALWAYS TALKED ABOUT THERE’S A LOT OF KIDS THAT HAVE DISABILITIES AND THIS AND THAT. DON’T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT. HONOR THAT EVERY DAY.”
CHARLIE’S DAD, JOE, IS THE ASSISTANT COACH OF THE CODY BRONCS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM. THIS IS A FAMILY OF ATHLETES AND TALKS ABOUT HOW SPECIAL IT IS TO SEE ONE OF HIS KIDS LIVE OUT THEIR DREAMS.
“SUPER PROUD. WE’RE JUST BLESSED TO HAVE HIM AROUND. YOU KNOW IT WAS KIND OF A BUMP IN THE ROAD WHEN HE HURT HIS ANKLE THIS YEAR AND IT WAS KIND OF A BUMMER NOT TO BE ABLE TO WATCH HIM GO AND HELP THE TEAM. BUT LIKE I SAID, BLESSED FOR HIM TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE ON AND WATCH HIM SOME MORE OF DOING WHAT HE LOVES TO DO.”
COACH BEAUDRIE GOES ON TO TALK ABOUT WHERE CHARLIE EXCELS ON THE FIELD AND WHAT TIPS HE WOULD GIVE TO NOT ONLY CHARLIE BUT ANY ATHLETE.
“FOR WHAT THEY WANT HIM TO DO RIGHT NOW, DEFENSIVELY, YOU KNOW HIS SIZE, SPEED AND EVERYTHING FITS REALLY WELL. AS THE COACH PART. GO IN THEIR LISTEN, LEARN, BE ON TIME, BE EARLY, ASK THE QUESTIONS YOU NEED TO ASK, ALL THOSE TYPES OF THINGS. YOU KNOW BEING A GREAT TEAMMATE.”
CHARLIE IS CURRENTLY GETTING READY FOR THE REGIONAL WRESTLING TOURNAMENT GOING ON THIS WEEKEND THEN WILL BE A PART OF THE TRACK TEAM IN THE SPRING BEFORE HE HEADS TO CHADRON STATE WHERE HE HOPES TO BATTLE FRO A STARTING POSITION. STAY TUNED TO THE BIG HORN RADIO NETWORK FOR MORE ON CHARLIE BEAUDRIE AND ALL OF CODY ATHLETICS.
