CHS Moving to Trimesters in 2018/2019

Written by on April 19, 2017

Cody High School will be restructuring their schedule for the 2018-2019 school year.

At last night’s Park County School District 6 board meeting, CHS Principal Jeremiah Johnston explained that due to statewide budget cuts, staffing at the high school has been reduced to the point that the current block schedule can’t be sustained past the next school year.

Johnston and Assistant Principal Beth Blatt fielded questions from the trustees regarding a proposed trimester schedule, which would allow more classes to be taught with fewer staff. Board member Stefanie Bell expressed her support for the trimester schedule option, but said that the decision hinges on the ability to schedule well.

Much of the discussion centered on planning – administration has as of yet been unable to get confirmation from the Power School grade application programmers that they can create a trimester schedule, but Johnston said they are actively trying to create a working model.

Additionally, Assistant Principal Blatt said that they want to make sure that the model will work before moving forward with the new schedule.

After discussion, the board voted 4-3 to approve moving to a trimester schedule for the 2018/2019 school year.
