City Council Supports Gunwerks Expansion

Written by on July 16, 2018

The Cody City Council last week gave their support to a local business that is already outgrowing their relatively new location.
Gunwerks, a firearms manufacturing company who moved to Cody from Burlington less than two years ago, has grown so quickly that the location they occupy now near the airport is too small to contain their operation. According to the economic development organization Forward Cody, the company has 37 employees currently, and expects to add 75 new positions – but they need more space.
Last Tuesday, the Cody City Council passed a resolution that showed their support for a state grant that would allow Forward Cody to purchase a 5-acre property on Blackburn Ave, which they would then lease to Gunwerks. City Administrator Barry Cook says that the application will be heard in September at the Wyoming Business Council’s meeting, which will be held here in Cody.

According to information from Forward Cody, Gunwerks will lease the facility as part of a 20-year lease agreement. The company projects that the 75 new jobs will offer wages between $18 and $40 an hour with a 12% benefit package.
