More Ferrets to be Released

Written by on July 16, 2018

Biologists plan another release of black-footed ferrets in Park County.
The animals were thought to be extinct until a tiny colony was discovered in 1981 near Meeteetse.
Biologists made previous releases in Park County in 2016 and 2017. The Casper Star-Tribune reports another release is set for some time this year.
The population of the species has surpassed 9,000 – and it’s still growing. The nocturnal weasels prey on prairie dogs.
A captive-breeding program has helped restore black-footed ferrets at several locations in Colorado, Montana and elsewhere in the western U.S.
