Cody Basketball Sweeps Lovell in Home Opener

It was the home opener for Cody Basketball, on Friday, as both teams would garner wins to sweep the Lovell Bulldogs.

In the first game of the evening it was the Fillies taking on the Lady Bulldogs and Cody caught fire early dropping in the games first 11 points and would lead at the end of the first quarter 25-10. The Fillies have now scored 48 points in the first quarter alone over their last two games.

The Fillies would keep the momentum going in the second behind four made 3-pointers with Molly Hays, Kennedi Niemann and Reece Niemann connecting from long range for their final nine points of the frame. At the half Cody would lead 45-22.

The Fillies kept their foot on the gas pedal in the second half while holding Lovell to just five points in the final 16 minutes as Cody cruised to their sixth straight win.

Four Fillies would score in double figures, led by Molly Hays with 22 points, three made 3-pointers. Kennedi Niemann dropped in 20 while Victory Buck had 11 and Ally Boysen had 10.

With the win, the Fillies are now 6-0 on the season.

In the second game of the double header the Broncs would use a 7-0 run to open the game ad led 13-8 after one quarter.

The Broncs were unconscious from behind the arc dropping in six made 3-pointers in the first half and that helped them build a 31-16 halftime lead.

In the third quarter Cody continued to build on the lead extending it to 44-21 after three.

After just 21 points through the first three quarters, Lovell would score 29 in the fourth but Cody would hang on for the 55-50 win, their second straight.

Eli Johnston and Grady McCarten would each score 12 points, Johnston had four made 3’s. Luke Talcih and Robby Porter added eight a-piece.

With the win the Broncs are now 2-4 on the season.

Up Next: Cody Basketball will host Sheridan on Tuesday January 11th. On Thursday, both teams will travel to Casper for a meeting with Kelly Walsh. Then, on Saturday, Cody opens conference play on the road at Riverton.
