Cody Basketball Sweeps Rock Springs to Punctuate Exciting Weekend

The Cody basketball teams took part in a pair of Class 4A Northwest Quad games over the weekend with the Fillies sweeping Natrona County and Rock Springs while the Broncs ended Saturday with a punctuation win over the Tigers.
Starting off with a look at the Fillies. Cody was in Casper on Friday for a big time showdown with Natrona County. This was a game that the Fillies wanted, having been swept by Natrona last year.
The team that can dictate the first three minutes of the first quarter and third quarter will win most ball games and that’s just what the Cody Fillies did. The Fillies would lead 13-3 after one quarter. Natrona would battle back and cut Cody’s lead to 21-19 at the intermission. The third quarter was big for Cody as the Fillies would drop in the first four points of the frame and took a six point advantage into the final quarter. In that final period Molly Hays, Ally Boysen and Izzy Radakovich knocked down clutch free throws, 10-13, and Cody would enact vengeance picking up the 51-44 win.
Leading the way for the Fillies, on Friday, was Molly Hays with 19 points. Kennedi and Recce Niemann combined to score 15 while Radakovich had 7.
In their second game of the weekend, for the Fillies, they would host Rock Springs on Saturday for just their third home game of the season.
This game played host to a point guard match-up of the ages between Kennedi Niemann of the Fillies and Brenli Jenkins of the Lady Tigers. And those two did not disappoint.
The Fillies jumped out to an 14-8 lead and would stretch that to 31-13 at the halftime break. At the intermission, Niemann had nine points while Jenkins had five.
Kennedi really found her stride with the second half dropping in two 3-pointers while Jenkins hit two threes of her own in the fourth.
The Fillies used stifling defense all game and came away with the 54-36 win.
Cody was 14-18 at the free throw line.
Kennedi Niemann led the way with 19 points. Her sister Reece dropped in 13 and Molly Hays added 12.
Following the weekend’s action, the Fillies are now 11-0 on the season.
And now a look at the Broncs. We’ll pick things up on Saturday following their 59-48 loss to Natrona on Friday.
Coming into Saturday’s action the Broncs were in need of a big win and boy did they get one, knocking off Rock Springs 54-36.
It was a tightly contested ball game through the first half of play with Cody leading 23-20 at the intermission but this game was one in the second half, primarily the third quarter.
Luke Talich, after struggling to find his shot in the 1st half, really got into a groove. Talich had five points in the third quarter and it was his conversion of an and-1 play that really got him going. The rest of the team fed off that momentum, which carried them to victory.
Talich kept that momentum going in the fourth, stealing the opening quarters in-bounds pass and laying it in for two. The Broncs would score 24 fourth quarter points.
Robby Porter and Kam Niemann had things going early knocking in threes and the Broncs earned a tough hard fought win.
Grady McCarten would lead the way with 17 points, 10 from the free throw line. Niemann had 13, Talich dropped in 11 and Porter had 10 for the Broncs.
With the win the Broncs are now 3-8 on the season.
Up Next: Cody Basketball is back in action Saturday the 29th when they host Powell for another Park County Rivalry. Girls are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30pm with the boys at 7pm.
