Cody Basketball Teams Earn Weekend Split vs. Jackson, Star Valley

Written by on February 11, 2020

BOTH CODY BASKETBALL TEAMS WERE IN ACTION OVER THE WEEKEND HOSTING BOTH STAR VALLEY AND JACKSON HOLE.

AFTER BOTH TEAMS LOST FRIDAY NIGHT TO STAR VALLEY, THEY WOULD BOTH BOUNCE BACK SATURDAY AGAINST JACKSON.

IN THE FIRST GAME OF THE DAY BRITTAN BOWER WOULD SCORE ONLY THREE POINTS IN THE GAME BUT HER THREE PROVED TO BE THE DIFFERENCE FOR THE FILLIES. WITH 90 SECONDS TO PLAY IN THE GAME THE FILLIES TRAILED BY TWO POINTS. AFTER A KENNEDI NIEMANN MISSED A 3-POINTER THAT WOULD’VE GIVEN THE FILLIES THE LEAD BOWER SECURED A CLUTCH REBOUND. AFTER A SEQUENCE OF QUICK PASSES NIEMANN HAD IT NEARSIDE AND PASSED IT UP TOP TO BOWER WHO FOUND HERSELF WIDE OPEN AT THE TOP OF THE KEY AND KNOCKED DOWN THE GO AHEAD 3-POINTER TO GIVE THE FILLIES A TWO POINT LEAD.

AFTER A LADY BRONC TIMEOUT THE ENSUING POSSESSION SAW TORRIE SCHUTZMAN FORCE A TURNOVER WHICH LED TO A BREAK AWAY LAY-UP AND THE CODY FILLIES KNOCKED OFF THE JACKSON LADY BRONCS 42-38 SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

LEADING THE WAY FOR THE FILLIES WAS TORRIE SCHUTZMAN WITH 16 POINTS WHILE KENNEDI AND RECCE NIEMANN COMBINED TO SCORE 17.

WITH THE WIN THE FILLIES IMPROVE TO 7-7 ON THE SEASON.

AS FOR THE BRONCS, THEY WOULD RUN AWAY FROM JACKSON AND GET THE 68-39 VICTORY.

CODY GRABBED HOLD OF BOTH THE LEAD AND MOMENTUM EARLY LEADING 15-7 AFTER ONE QUARTER AND HELD A 31-15 LEAD AT THE HALF. IT WAS THE THIRD QUARTER WHERE THEY REALLY SEPARATED THEMSELVES, SCORING 23 POINTS IN THE THIRD FRAME, TO KEEP JACKSON WIN-LESS ON THE SEASON.

LUKE TALICH LED THE BRONCS, WHO HAD 10 DIFFERENT PLAYERS SCORE A POINTS, WITH 17 POINTS. HUNTER HAYS ADDED 13 WHILE TRISTAN BLATT HAD NINE.

WITH THE WIN CODY IMPROVES TO 6-8 ON THE SEASON.

FOLLOWING THE END OF THE GAME I CAUGHT UP WITH DUNCAN RADAKOVICH WHO HAD 16 POINTS OVER THE WEEKEND AND HE COMMENTS ON WHAT’S WORKING FOR THE BRONCS.

DEFENSIVELY HAS BEEN THE FOCUS ALL THE TIME, SHARING THE BALL. I KNOW THIS YEAR WE’RE PLAYING MORE LIKE A TEAM, IT’S NOT JUST ONE OR TWO GUYS LIKE IT WAS LAST YEAR. WE’RE SHARING THE BALL, WE’RE GETTING POST TOUCHES INSIDE WHICH THEN MAKES THE DEFENSE COLLAPSE, THEN I CAN KICK TO LUKE, OR COY OR HUNTER, THE SHOOTERS ON THE TEAM AND THEY CAN DO THEIR JOB. I THINK IT’S WORKING OUT REALLY WELL.”

UP NEXT: BOTH CODY TEAMS HIT THE ROAD FOR A WEEKEND MATCH-UP WITH EVANSTON FRIDAY THE 14TH AND TAKE ON GREEN RIVER SATURDAY THE 15TH.
