Cody Cubs: Inside the Numbers

As the Cody Cubs prepare for the District tournament this weekend, in Lovell, today a look at the Cubs inside the numbers and what’s helped them garner the best record in Class A.
The Cody Cubs are once again the top dog heading into the District tournament. The Cubs finished the Northwest “A” Division in first place with a 36-15 overall record. They would go undefeated in conference play, 8-0, sweeping Powell and Lovell.
The Cubs have scored 507 runs this season, just under 10 per game. They post a team batting average of .346, have launched 28 home runs, hit 23 triples and 105 doubles.
Offensively, the Cubs have been a juggernaut all year. They have four players who have a batting average over .400 led by Tristan Blatt with a .484 average. Blatt and Jackson Schroeder lead the team in Home Runs with a combined 25 (Blatt-16, Schroeder-9). Blatt also leads the team in triples with seven and doubles with 23.
Cody as a team has an on base percentage of .469. Quality at-bats are huge fo this team who averages a quality a quality at bat half the time. They have four players with more than 20 2-out RBI’s (Blatt, Schroeder, Devyn Engdahl and Ethan Johnston.)
On the mound, Cody pitchers have combined to throw 316 innings and sport a 4.342 ERA. They have held their opponents to a .270 batting average and give up just about five runs per game.
The Cubs have five players who have thrown more that 20 innings while maintaining a sub-4 ERA (Tyler Grenz, Blatt, Schroeder, Johnston, Engdahl.) Schroeder and Engdahl have combined to strike out 118 batters this season.
The Cody Cubs will be taking part in the 2021 Legion “A” West District Tournament, Saturday and Sunday, July 17th and 18th in Cowley Wyoming.
The Cubs will get tournament play underway Saturday at 1pm vs. the winner of Rawlins/Lovell.
