Cody Cupboard Food Drive This Saturday

An annual event that assists needy families in Cody requires the participation of the entire community.
The annual Cody Cupboard Food Drive will be taking place this Saturday, November 3rd, from 10 until 2. Although the drive itself will be headquartered at the Cody Auditorium, volunteers will be going door to door gathering non-perishable food and other household items.
Board President Jim Terry says that the drive provides food for day-to-day distribution to those in need.
Terry says that in the past twelve years, the food drive has provided over 100,000 pounds of food for local citizens in need – that’s over 50 tons in the last twelve years – and last year’s collection gathered over 13,000 pounds of food. He says they hope to top that number this year.
In 2017, Terry says that the Cupboard answered 1,840 calls for assistance and provided food to over 4,500 people. Over 1,800 vouchers for bread, milk and eggs were also provided. In December, Cody Cupboard also prepared Christmas food boxes for 247 households.
The Cupboard is requesting non-perishable, non-expired food items such as pasta, cereal, rice, canned fruits and vegetables, soup, tuna, chicken, other canned meat and fish, and peanut butter and jelly. Paper products and toiletries are also welcome. Additionally, monetary donations are extremely helpful and are used to purchase food throughout the year.
