Cody Kids Eligible For Free Meals

Written by on July 28, 2017

All Cody children have the opportunity to get two free meals a day through a federally funded program that wants to ensure that no child goes hungry this summer.
Gen Sheets, Nutrition Director for Park County School District 6, says that this is the third summer that they are working with the federal food service program. She says that in the last couple of years they’ve offered breakfast and lunches at locations both inside and out of the school system, but this year they’re offering lunch and an afternoon snack at locations where most of the children who will be in the most need would be gathered. This year the meals are being served at the Rec Center and the Youth Clubs of Park County (formerly the Boys and Girls Club.)
Sheets says that they have a pretty accurate estimation of how many children to prepare for based on average attendance at the meal locations, but they have a system in place so food doesn’t go to waste.

Sheets points out that any child 18 and under is eligible for this program, regardless of economic need.
