Cody Man Arrested for Auto Burglary

Written by on June 19, 2018

Several Cody residents have reported stolen or damaged property in the last few days – and the investigation has resulted in an arrest.
43-year-old Stephen Music was arrested on Sunday, June 17th, at around 11:30 p.m. on two counts of auto burglary and 2 counts of property destruction on the 1300 block of Beck Avenue. An affidavit filed by Officer Rayna Wortham says that she responded to a report of an injured man beating on the back door of Dominos pizza just after 11 p.m. She caught up with Music shortly afterwards, who claimed that his hand had been cut on a bottle – but then the officer observed a van parked outside of Accents Floral that had been broken into, with blood spatters on the outside of the van. Music was apprehended, and had a pair of pliers and a knife on him at the time of his arrest. Music was also intoxicated, registering a .139 blood alcohol level.
Further investigation found another vehicle similarly damaged down the street, registered to The Nature Conservancy. And another area resident commented on social media yesterday that his truck had been broken into on Sunday evening, and that the culprit had broken off the tip of the victim’s hunting knife in the ignition of the truck and apparently cut themselves, leaving traces of blood behind.
Officer Wortham posted a comment on social media, asking residents to contact the Cody Police Department if they have had anything stolen or damaged in the last month or so in the Cody area. She advised people to pay particular attention to any unlocked vehicles, and if anything is missing or visibly ransacked, the department should be notified as soon as possible so they can take a report and possibly return any stolen property.
