Cody Parents: Kindergarten Registration Deadline on May 6

Cody Parents: Kindergarten Registration Deadline on May 6

Written by on May 3, 2022

Park County School District #6 reminds parents with younger children that they have until the end of this week to get them on the kindergarten class list.

Kindergarten registration is now open for the Park County School District #6 2022-2023 school year starting in August 2022. This registration process is intended to get most of the information the district needs from parents so their children can start school.

Park County School District #6 has all-day kindergarten at three in-town elementary schools (Eastside, Livingston, and Sunset) and two rural elementary schools (Valley and Wapiti.)

Parents should plan on spending 20 to 30 minutes registering their child.

Families should make sure kindergarteners are registered by May 6th, 2022, to ensure they are considered for school placements.

Children must be five years old on or before August 1st of the upcoming school year to be automatically eligible to enroll in kindergarten.

The online registration asks for several additional documents. Parents can upload pictures or scanned PDFs of each document.

  • Child’s original birth certificate
  • Any out of state immunization records
  • Records Request from Previous School (if your child attended kindergarten in another district before the 2022-2023 school year)
  • Any legal documents we will need (custody documents, etc.)

If anyone cannot upload these documents, the district encourages you to continue with the registration, and we will get these documents from you before school starts in the fall.

If a child has a birthday between August 2 and September 15 and you would like them to start kindergarten, they are not automatically eligible for kindergarten. However, parents can petition the district to get their child registered.

Regardless, parents are encouraged to fill out an application for their five-year-old children. The district will review all applications and petitions and approve this year’s kindergarten students by August 1.

Any questions about the petition process can be directed to the Park County School District #6 district office at (307) 587-4253.

All incoming kindergarten students participate in a standardized readiness screening. This screening helps determine a child’s readiness levels specific to kindergarten and may address concerns about whether a child needs another year to grow.

The district also offers a Kindergarten Readiness Camp (K.R.C.) free of charge to all registered kindergartners. K.R.C. activities include advancing students learning in reading, writing, and math. In addition, the course implements other essential school skills like walking in the halls, transitioning from one classroom to another, crossing in the crosswalk, and riding the bus.

This year’s Kindergarten Readiness Camp runs Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. from June 6 to June 23.

Park County School District #6 has instructions and a video on its website to guide students through the registration process.
