Cody Phillips: Super 25 Third Team

Written by on December 23, 2020

The Post season accolades continue to roll in for the Cody Broncs football team. Over the weekend it was announced that four Bronc football players were selected to the Casper Star-Tribune Super 25 team. Two Broncs earned first team, one second team and Cody Phillips was named to the third team. Phillips has shown big strides through his high school football year and it all came together this season for Phillips who had a break out year on the gridiron. I was able to catch up with the former football and current basketball player to talk to him about his 3rd team honor. Phillips on what it means to be recognized as one of the best in the state.

“Feels great. We’ve been working for it all season. It feels great to get an award like that.”

Phillips had a break out year for the Broncs, finishing with 687 total yards (second on the team). Phillips scored 10 total touchdowns( 3 receiving, 7 rushing). On defense, Phillips commanded one of the bandit positions (Safety/Linebacker hybrid). He finished with 41 defensive points, 23 tackles, two for a loss and one sack. Cody attributes that success to the game slowing down.

“Yeah it really did and I want to thank my teammates for that and the coaches for giving me opportunities and believing in me.”

One big reason for the breakout year for Phillips is his ability to stay healthy. Phillips has battle injuries throughout High School as says he’s blessed to have full health.

“Oh it was really important for me to stay healthy this year. It felt great finally not having an injury. So it’s awesome.”

And Cody adds to how special it is to see all the hard work pay off.

“That also feels amazing and you know it still doesn’t compare to a state title though with my teammates.”

Cody is one of four Broncs that earned Super 25 honors. Johnny Williams was second team while Nic Talich and Keaton Stone were first team. Stay tuned to the Big Horn Radio Network for more on Cody High School athletics.
