Cody is the 5th safest “city” in the state.
The website Security Baron ranks the safest cities in each state by using the FBI’s 2017 and 2016 Uniform Crime Reporting data, examining factors like the rate of murder, robbery, assault, vehicle theft and other crimes and contrasting it with the city’s population, number of households and median income to create an overall safety score and ranking.
Cody’s violent crime rate for 2016-17 was 1.11 crimes for every 1,000 people and 15.07 property crimes per 1,000 people. This, combined with the population, households, and median income granted Cody the Security Baron score of 81.29, the 5th safest city in Wyoming. The safest city was Green River with a score of 84.44. Worland came in 3rd. Powell at 12th. The lowest ranked “city” was Riverton; 17th with a score of 56.14.
While it might not be an official designation, Security Baron’s report does show that violent crimes on the whole are lower in Cody than in years past. Property crimes, however, are up.
