Cody Ranks 7th on USA Today List of Best Small Town Art Scenes

Written by on July 27, 2022

It’s a little lower on the list than last year, but USA Today readers still believe Cody is one of the best communities in the nation for an artistic atmosphere on a smaller scale.

USA Today enlisted the American people to vote in one of their 10 Best Readers’ Choice lists for 2022. Travel experts select 20 nominees in contests covering several topics – food, lodging, destinations, etc. – and let readers vote on the best. And, once again, Cody makes the cut.

Twenty towns across the nation were chosen competed for “the Best Small Town Art Scene.” Each competing location has fewer than 30,000 residents (as of the 2020 census) but supports a diverse collection of art museums, art galleries, performing arts, and busy event calendars.

After over a month of voting, Cody finishes as the 7th Best Small Town Arts Scene in the United States.

The top 10 winners in the Best Small Town Arts Scene are as follows:

  1. Tubac – Arizona
  2. Taos – New Mexico
  3. Gatlinburg – Tennessee
  4. Rahway – New Jersey
  5. Manitou Springs – Colorado
  6. Lucas – Kansas
  7. Cody – Wyoming
  8. Carmel-by-the-Sea – California
  9. Yellow Springs – Ohio
  10. Stockbridge – Massachusetts

Cody ranked 6th on the 2021 list. However, it was bumped down after Taos, New Mexico, entered the top five. Meanwhile, Tubac retains its first-place finish for another consecutive year.

Cody’s description listed several local art galleries and the Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale to explain why travel experts chose the community as one of the twenty small towns for the poll.

The former home of Buffalo Bill now hosts a vibrant arts community, thanks to the Cody Country Art League, Big Horn Galleries, Simpson Gallagher Gallery, and Mountain Valley Artistry. Visit during the annual Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale to find pieces celebrating the American West.

The Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale will be the main event of the 41st Annual Rendezvous Royale, scheduled for Sept. 19 – 24, 2022.
