Cody Senior Center: Closed Until 2021

Written by on December 2, 2020

The Cody Senior Center is continuing its current COVID-19 closure thru December, but hopeful that 2021 will be brighter.

As of Wed, Dec. 2, the Cody Senior Center board took several actions to ensure they can keep their staff and seniors safe. The board voted to close the center on Oct. 29 as the COVID-19 situation in Park County worsened.

Now, the board has extended that closure until Jan. 4, 2021. They will also forgo their December board meeting due to extenuating circumstances.

It was also decided that Thrift Barn would be temporarily closed after an employee had direct exposure to COVID-19. It will be reopened once the employees test negative and pose no risk of infection to themselves and the public.

In a message released by the Senior Center Board and Executive Director Jenny Johnstone-Smith, the once again thanked the community for adapting to these unfortunate changes.

“We appreciate all the support we have received from the community in meeting these ongoing challenges. The Board and Staff continue to keep the safety of the seniors we serve at the forefront of all decisions and hope to return the Thrift Barn and the Cody Senior Center to normal operations as soon as safely possible.”

Meanwhile, the Center’s curbside meal pickup continues Monday thru Friday between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. But there will be some festive twists to bring some holiday cheer to Cody’s seniors.

On Friday, Dec. 4, current members can enjoy a special Christmas meal to be served curbside. There’s also a “special treat” being planned for News Year’s Eve – “Kick 2020 to the Curb!” The celebratory curbside meal will include a hot chocolate table, door prizes, and more for Cody Senior Center members.

While the Center may be closed, memberships are still be accepted. Any Cody resident 60 years and older can join free of charge. Just call (307) 587-6221 for a membership form.
