Counterfeit Bills Still Appearing in Cody

Counterfeit bills keep turning up in Cody.

As recently as this weekend, counterfeit bills have turned up in random bank deposits. Lieutenant Jason Stafford with the Cody Police Department says it is their assumption that the bills were circulated in the past and are just now being discovered.

One person has been arrested already in connection with the counterfeit bills, and Stafford says that charges are pending against several others. Since January, Stafford says there have been about ten incidents total. He points out that if you know what to look for, the fake bills are easy to spot.

Stafford adds that since the Cody PD put out a business alert containing the known serial numbers on the bills, more people are becoming aware to look for this fake currency.
