Cowie, Trotter Lead Cody Past Jackson on Homecoming

Written by on September 27, 2019

WITH LESS THAN 40 SECONDS TO GO IN THE GAME THE CODY BRONCS FOUND THEMSELVES DOWN BY 3. THEIR WAS NO PANIC AS HUNTER HAYS DROPPED BACK TO PASS IT AND FOUND CHAZ COWIE WIDE OPEN IN THE FLAT. COWIE WOULD MAKE ONE MAN MISS, STAY IN BOUNDS, GOT A GREAT LEAD BLOCK FROM MATT SANDOVAL AND TOOK IT TO THE HOUSE FROM 48 YARDS OUT TO PROPEL THE CODY BRONCS TO A 19-15 WIN OVER THE JACKSON BRONCS FRIDAY NIGHT FOR HOMECOMING.

AND AFTER THE GAME I CAUGHT UP WITH CHAZ AND ASKED HIM ABOUT THAT EXACT PLAY.

CODY WOULD OPEN UP THE SCORING WITH A 10 YARD TOUCHDOWN RUN FROM DREW TROTTER MIDWAY THROUGH THE 2ND QUARTER AFTER THE DEFENSE FORCED A FUMBLE. TROTTER WOULD AGAIN FIND THE END-ZONE FROM 26 YARDS OUT, A FEW MINUTES LATER, ON FOURTH AND TWO AND CODY LED AT THE HALF 12-0.

THE SECOND HALF WOULD START OFF WITH A HUNTER HAYS INTERCEPTION WHICH GAME JACKSON THE FIRST SIGN OF LIFE THEY HAD ALL NIGHT. OVER THE NEXT 20 MINUTES JACKSON SCORED 15 UNANSWERED POINTS TO TAKE A 3 POINT LEAD WITH UNDER A MINUTE TO PLAY, THEN COWIE BURST 48 YARDS TO THE ENDZONE.

WITH THE WIN CODY IMPROVES TO 1-0 IN 3A WEST CONFERENCE PLAY AND UP NEXT THEY ARE ON THE ROAD FOR A MATCH-UP WITH EVANSTON.
