Drivers Warned About Cell Phone Use in Powell

No citations have been issued by Powell Police since a ban on hand-held cell phone use by drivers was put in place.
But according to an article in the Powell Tribune, drivers have been given warnings at the rate of about one a week since January, when the Powell City Council’s prohibition on the use of hand-held devices while driving took effect. Police Chief Roy Eckerdt said their focus continues to be on educating people about the ordinance and changing behaviors.
However, he cautioned that getting caught on a cellphone multiple times will result in a citation. At Powell Municipal Court, a violation of the hands-free rules will generally bring a $25 fine, plus $10 in court costs.
Powell is the only community in the Basin with a ban on hand-held devices while driving.
