Expansion Proposed at Shooting Complex

Written by on July 26, 2019

Sport shooters in the Cody area may soon have more space to practice.

A public meeting Monday evening near the Cody Shooting Complex northwest of Cody will center on the proposed expansion of the shooting range. The meeting will be hosted by the Bureau of Land Management Cody Field Office.

The BLM is preparing an Environmental Assessment for an application by Park County to expand the Cody Shooting Range Complex through the transfer of 228 acres of public land currently managed by the Bureau of Reclamation. The proposed action would allow the Cody Shooting Range Complex to expand both a public shooting range and a law enforcement range.

The expansion area would intersect sections of the Outlaw Trails system, but BLM officials say there is no plan for trail closures or access restrictions to the trails.

The Bureau of Reclamation has authorized the conveyance and has filed a Notice of Intent to relinquish their management of the land.

The Monday meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Outlaw Trails parking lot, about four and a half miles northwest of Cody on Road 7WC.
